The Area - Lake Tahoe

 Lake Tahoe is North America’s largest Alpine Lake and the second deepest lake in the United States. Here, the cobalt-blue waters attract families to its shores all throughout the year, whether to play in the pristine water or to marvel at the unique scenery created by the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

A memorable day-trip awaits at Emerald Bay State Park, located 12 miles north of South Lake. The park is known for its glacier-carved granite and is also home to two campgrounds, Boat-In Camp and Eagle Point. The most unique part of Emerald Bay is Fannette Island, the only island in Lake Tahoe and is home to the “Tea House” built in 1928. 

Whether you are looking to relax on a sandy beach or hang out on the massive rocks that surround the lake, you’ll find plenty of options around Lake Tahoe. Sand Harbor is a local favorite, with ample parking, a family-friendly environment, dining options and boat-ramp access. For a more romantic excursion, head to Hidden Beach, where the scenery will leave you in awe.

The west shore is also home to several lakefront options, including the West Shore Café, Sunnyside and Gar Woods Grill & Pier.
